Neeraj Chopra was born in Khandra village, Panipat district, Haryana, into a Haryanvi Ror agricultural family. He attended BVN Public School in Panipat, and after being teased for his obesity, he joined a gym, where he discovered javelin throwing at Shivaji stadium. In 2010, at age 13, he moved to Panchkula for training at Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex and later completed his schooling at Dayanand Anglo-Vedic College, Chandigarh.
Neeraj won several national javelin championships between 2012 and 2014, leading to his recruitment into the Indian Army in 2016, where he trained at the Army Sports Institute in Pune. In 2021, he enrolled at Lovely Professional University for a bachelor’s degree. He has two sisters.
